Isimila Stone Age Site
Isimila Stone Age Site is ancient historical site located in Iringa region with Old Stone Age tool discovered. The area has wonderful eroded sandy stone pillars’ standing high in a dry bed of former shallow lake.
The significant old stone tools was unearthed in area estimated to be 60,000 and 100,000 years old with other bone fossils of wild animals include fossils of giraffe related to modern giraffe with shorter neck and extinct hippo with unusual periscope like projection.
Isimila site preserve the important evidence of various activities of early hominids when the nomadic hunters and collectors dominate area used to hunt along shores of ancient lake. A small museum in the area display and preserve the findings discovered.
